Care of the Intangible Cultural Heritage: Case of the Ride of Kings

Care of the intangible cultural heritage is nowadays dependent on several elements. The main element is people and community in the places where the habit or tradition is still kept. But their effort must be supported by national and international authorities who invest considerable resources into their preservation. Except this also the general awareness of public that is a guarantee of passing the tradition to the next generations is very important. On the example of the Ride of Kings there is captured historical evolution of the tradition, which during the previous century undergo the change in the people's celebrations. By their formation was conditioned preservation of tradition, which began to vanish in the second half of the 20th century. The Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarded by UNESCO - the Mexican case

The aim of the work is to evaluate to what degree the intangible UNESCO monument of the "Day of the Dead" (Día de Muertos) is indeed a living heritage. In the first chapter, it deals with UNESCO and the institution of intangible heritage and with an overview of the Mexican monuments thereof. The second chapter presents in its three parts analyses the present state of the "Day of the Dead" on the background of its historical development, and it evaluates the current impact of the UNESCO world heritage protection in relation to globalization and commercialization of the holiday. The comparasion of the Ride of the Kings in the cities of Hluk, Kunovice, Skoronice and Vlčnov.

The bachelor thesis describes the Ride of the Kings as an example of traditional Czech folk culture and demonstrates the differenes between the Ride of the Kings in the cities of Hluk, Kunovice and Skoronice and Vlčnov. It presents the legislation of the Czech republic as well as the legislation of UNESCO; it also includes a description of the entry in the Representative List of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The practical part of the thesis brings the comparision of the ceremony, history, traditions and customs of the Ride in the selected villages. It also deals with the budgets of these villages.

Spiritualism as a regional specificity of the Giant Mountains and its reflection in contemporary spiritual culture

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of folk religiosity, particularly its manifestation in the Giant Mountains. The thesis describes the roots of a movement, which originated in the 19th century in the USA and has been known under the term "spiritualism". The thesis also captures the penetration of this movement in Bohemia and its development. An important source is also the reflection of spiritualism in regional literature. Bachelor thesis summarizes the history of spiritualism as a specific expression of local spiritual culture of the Giant Mountains. The paper provides the results of field research on contemporary manifestations of spiritualism in the region. It also describes the government's approach to this phenomenon in the context of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO) and the Concept of Effective Care for Traditional Folk Culture in the Czech Republic.
The phenomenon of bagpiping in the Czech Republic and its possibility of being added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

The purpose of this thesis is to figure out the significance of the bagpiping tradition in the Czech Republic its potential to be added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The thesis explains the current laws and ordinances in the area of protection of intangible cultural heritage and its application in the Czech Republic. The paper then explores the history and development of the bagpiping tradition and shows the current presentation in rural culture. Based on this theoretical part it answers the question if the bagpiping tradition has potential to be added to the Representative List or if there are steps that need to be taken first.
The influence of the inscription of cultural assets on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in the region of Slovácko

The thesis aims to determine the influence on the development and preservation of traditional folk culture which had the inscription of two cultural assets, The Ride of kings and The Slovácko verbuňk, on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in the region of Slovácko. In general the thesis also introduces applicable regulations of UNESCO in the field of intangible cultural heritage and their application in the Czech Republic. In more detail, the thesis devotes to the process of inscription of both cultural assets on the Representative List of UNESCO, particularly to the safeguarding measures and obligations arising from it for the Czech Republic. In conclusion the thesis explains how these safeguarding measures are met, and analyzes the impact of the entry to the UNESCO for assets themselves and their recipients and for general public.

This Bachelor's Thesis describes the Rides of the kings as an example of traditional culture and possibilities of popularization of this custom. Furthermore this thesis describes legislative instruments in the Czech Republic and also international legislative instruments UNESCO, which affect intangible cultural heritage. It compares the form of the Ride of the Kings in four villages -- Vlčnov, Kunovice, Hluk and Skoronice.
